JAMMU, Apr 23: Balwant Thakur, Regional Director of Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, called on Jammu University Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohan Pal Singh Ishar for offering admission of International students in JU.
Balwant Thakur submitted the applications of six International students desiring to seek admission in various departments of Jammu University. These students are also being considered for the Award of Scholarship by ICCR under its scheme of International Scholarships.
These students belong to the countries like Cambodia, People’s Democratic Republic of Laos, Fiji and Ethiopia. With the admission of International students, the University of Jammu will virtually become an International destination of educational excellence. Balwant Thakur informed that one of the major activities of ICCR is the award of scholarship to International students.
The ICCR annually offers about 2325 scholarships under 21 scholarships schemes. Most of the scholarship holders come from developing countries in Asia, Africa, South and Central America. However, there are quite a few students from the developed countries as well. Around 3550 foreign students are currently studying in India under the various scholarship schemes. The students are in graduate, post graduate and doctoral programmes as well as in professional courses such as engineering, pharmacy, accounting, business administration and management. Scholarships are also given for learning Indian dance, music, painting, sculpture etc.
The Vice Chancellor JU expressed happiness and assured all possible help and support to enroll International students in the University of Jammu. He thanked ICCR for recommending the admission of International students to the University of Jammu.
