ICCR Jammu completes 3 years

JAMMU, May 25:  Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, Regional office Jammu, today completed its three eventful years in Jammu.
On the occasion the Regional Director of ICCR Jammu, Balwant Thakur released a document ‘Three Eventful Years of ICCR Jammu’ at ICCR headquarters in Jammu before the media and invited guests.
Elaborating details, Balwant Thakur said that in the last three years, ICCR organized 50 major cultural events which included four International presentations.  “The first in the series to come from outside India was the dances of Zambia. This amazing presentation was an eye opener for everyone and people out here were exposed to the International standards of performances and presentations for the first time,” he said and added that
under the popular Horizon Series programme, ICCR Jammu organized 45 programmes in Jammu.
In three eventful years of ICCR, Jammu witnessed seven major festivals which set new standards of excellence of the holding of mega cultural events. Few unique programmes included ‘Kukua Bol’ by Bashir Mastana, ‘Musical Tribute to Vijay Malla’, musical opera ‘Gulab Gaatha’ and ‘Kunju Chanchlo’, ‘Actors at Work’- a theatre training programme conducted by Asheish Nijhawan of London International School of Performing Arts, ‘Rhythmic Moves in Spring’- a programme of contemporary Dances by Trance Academy and Screening of Internationally acclaimed art film ‘Nainsukh’ by globally acclaimed film director Amit Dutta.
Amongst visual art event, ICCR Jammu organised an All-India art Exhibition as well featuring the painting collections of ICCR and Ist ever International Exhibition of Cartoons, curated by Chander Shekhar. To encourage young talents ICCR Jammu started a new series ‘Young Tarang’ and showcased the talent of over 100 young budding artists.
