ICCR hosts ‘Geetru’ at Dogra Law College

SAMBA, Feb 28: Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) as part of its cultural activities hosted a special performance of local flavor “Geetru” (Dogri folk song and dances) by an eminent artist at Dogra Law College, Bassi Kalla, Bari Brahmana, under its horizon series.
Former Minister Gulchain Singh Charak, Chairman Dogra Educational Trust and president, Dogra Sadar Sabha was the chief guest of the function.
The performance began with “Matthe de chamkan baal…” which enthralled everyone in the audience with the powerful singing of Om Parkash Musical Group. Those who accompanied the singer were also the masters in their respective instruments. They included (Flute) Rakesh Khanna, (dholak) Shammi and (Keyboard) Ranju. The singing bonanza touched the crescendo when she sang “Vir mere di chambe je noukri”.
Earlier, NK Shil, Regional Director, ICCR, in his welcome address, said, “The council began its monthly programme under horizon series in Jammu in the month of July 2012 and delivered more than 87 such programmes and today ICCR presented yet another engrossing Dogri song performance by popular Om Prakash Musical Group, which hardly needs any introduction”. He said Om Prakash Musical Group has won many accolades and laurels throughout the country. It has in his credit many sparkling performances at national and international stages.
The objective of the programme was to establish, encourage and strengthen the inter cultural relationship, neighbourhood bonding, enhance mutual understanding and promote our rich heritage of peaceful coexistence of people of all faiths in the region through cultural initiatives and provide opportunity to local talents of Jammu in the field of art, music, dance and drama.
An added striking feature of the programme was the amazing anchoring done by a versatile presenter. The benign presence of various music dignitaries added grace to the event.
