JAMMU, May 25: Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) Jammu celebrated its 6th foundation day here today at its headquarters with the presentation of a film ‘Five Eventful Years of ICCR in Jammu’ which featured the glimpses of international shows hosted by ICCR in Jammu.
The Jammu centre of ICCR was inaugurated by Dr Karan Singh, then president of ICCR on 25th May, 2012 with the super-mega spectacular presentation ‘Jammu Mega Cultural Show’. Unfolding details, Regional Director ICCR, Balwant Thakur said that in just five years ICCR established new international professional standards and trends of cultural showcasing in Jammu.
To encourage young talents, ICCR Jammu started a new series ‘Young Tarang’ and showcased the talent of over 200 young budding artists of the region. In literary field, ICCR Jammu set new trends and brought fresh concepts of showcasing literature in altogether in new fashion and organised ‘Padma De Geet Dogri Sangeet’, ‘Jashn-e-Gahzal’, ‘Do Kahanikaar’, ‘Triveni’, and ‘Story Telling Festival’.
The most noteworthy feature of ICCR initiative in Jammu is the diverse range of activities. On one hand when it commissioned research based historical cultural presentations like ‘Gulab Gaatha’ and ‘Kunju Chanchlo’, it also encouraged contemporary presentations like ‘Jammu Rock Show’, ‘International Dance Day Celebrations’ and ‘Rhythmic moves in Spring’.
To offer training opportunities six theatre workshops were also organised during the period which were conducted by Anil Tickoo, Ashiesh Nijhawan, Sumeet Sharma, Abhishek Bharti, Ravinder Sharma, and Bipin Gupta.
In connection with the celebrations of Five years of ICCR in Jammu, a group from Mauritius has been invited by ICCR to present the music and dances of Mauritius on Sunday 28th of May, 2017 at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu.
