JAMMU, May 20: The International Centre for Cross Cultural Research and Human Resource Management, (ICccR & HRM), University of Jammu, organized a Faculty Development Programme /brainstorming session for the faculty members.
Prof S K Jain, originally an eminent Professor of Management at Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi and currently Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, Katra, and Prof Rakesh Mohan Joshi, Chairperson, International Relations and Research, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT), New Delhi, were the mentors for the session. Dr Suparan Sharma, Director, School of Management, SMVDU and Prof B C Sharma, Dean Student Placements, JU, were other resource persons.
The programme covered several areas like curriculum development, course structuring, teaching pedagogy and developing an understanding of international corporate orientation.
Prof S K Jain deliberated the importance of international economics and business in the global business environment and discussed the relevance of MBA: International Business (MBA-IB) programme. He opined that the curriculum must be thorough, capitalizing on the conceptual understanding of international business which shall enable the students to function effectively as managers both nationally and internationally. He appreciated the efforts at International Centre in seeking to bring in qualitative academic input through such activities and termed it as the correct and appropriate intervention towards up-gradation, improvement and growth.
Prof Rakesh Mohan Joshi gave critical and thought provoking inputs to the faculty members with special emphasis on integrated multidisciplinary approach for developing a curriculum which is application oriented and has a managerial focus.
Prof B C Sharma apprised the faculty members about the current market and industry requirements. Dr Suparan Sharma also provided several valuable inputs on the occasion. All the experts advocated extensive use of appropriate teaching methods that included use of technology, softwares and quantitative models.
Earlier, Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Director ICccR & HRM and Rector Kathua Campus, formally welcomed the experts and provided inputs for the MBA-IB programme at the International Centre. She emphasized upon integrating the functions of management with the cross- cultural and international mindset.
Prof Rohmetra informed that the exercise of this nature has been primarily undertaken to acquaint the faculty with the critical areas of knowledge and practice about the international business and organizational functioning in the global set up. This brain storming session with a cross disciplinary approach aimed at training the faculty members to line up with the international standards of teaching pedagogy, she added.
The visiting Professors later called on Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu and interacted over various issues pertaining to higher education in the Country. Management Faculty at ICccR &HRM, The Business School and The Management School at Kathua Campus participated in the programme.
