Hybrid militants no challenge for security forces: ADGP

Srinagar, Aug 5: Additional Director General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar today said that there has been marked change in the security situation in Kashmir after abrogation of Article 370 and hybrid militants are no longer a challenge for them as they are being identified and neutralised.
Talking to reporters, after his visit to several areas of Srinagar city, Kumar said that hybrid militants were no longer a challenge to police. “We identify them and arrest or neutralize them,” he said.
He also said that Hurriyat calls have stopped due to which all shops, markets used to be closed and children used to suffer as schools and colleges used to be closed down.
“After killing of a militant, thousands of people used to attend funerals and it used to glorify militants that also has stopped,” he said.
“Stone pelting used to happen at encounter sites which resulted in collateral damage and that has also stopped,” he added.
He said a good atmosphere has been created. “Public should understand the motives of militants and Pakistan. Public should cooperate with security forces so that peace is maintained,” he said.
The ADGP said that there has been a sea change in the law and order situation and militancy in Kashmir post Aug 5 2019.
He said that there were 3686 law and order incidents in which 124 civilian killings, and six security men were in Kashmir three years before Aug 5 2019 while 3 years after there were only 438 such incidents in which not a single civilian or security men were killed.
Kumar said that three years prior to the abrogation of article 370 there were 930 militants related incidents in which 290 security men and 191 civilians were killed while in three years after the abrogation 174 security men and 110 civilians were killed in 617 militancy related incidents.
Asked about the attack on Gadoora Pulwama in which a non-local labourer was killed and two others injured in a grenade blast last evening, the ADGP Kumar said that two militants were behind it.
“Two LeT (militants) came on a bike. We have identified them and very soon they will be either arrested on neutralized,” he added.
Earlier, he reviewed security situation in Srinagar and visited several areas of the city. He was accompanied besides others by IG CRPF and they took a detour of several areas of downtown, Bemina, Hyderpora and Lal Chowk.
They reviewed security arrangements deployed on the ground and interacted with officers and personnel deployed on the ground.
