JAMMU, May 11: A delegation of Hardware, Paint and Sanitary Association (HPSDA) today met DC Jammu Sushma Chauhan and sought permission to open their trade establishments.
The delegation comprising president Neeraj Gupta, senior vice president Naresh Chopra, vice president Varun Sharma, general secretary Subash Nanda, treasurer Vishal Bhat and publicity incharge Sanjay Pandita handed over a memorandum in this regard to DC Jammu at her office today.
The members highlighted the problems faced by the trade fraternity dealing with paints, hardware and sanitary items due to continued lockdown since March 20. “We have borrowed huge amount of loans from the banks in shape of cash credit limits/personal loans/housing loans/transport loans etc which are attracting huge interests and EMIs regularly as per their schedule,” they said, adding, as the business establishments are closed since March 20 they are not in a position to pay their dues.
The delegation said that all business houses have owned showrooms and godowns on rent and paying for that. “Apart from this, we have to bear the burden of paying the salaries to our employees who have to feed their families irrespective of continued lockdown but on the other hand Government is charging full electricity and water charges during the period of lockdown,” members regretted.
Stating that the products in which they are dealing have very little shelf life, are inflammable in nature and need to be protected from electric short circuits and moisture, the delegation appealed that the administration must take remedial action by allowing their trade fraternity to open their establishments as per Government rules and regulations to save their products from expiring and earn to meet the daily expenses.
The delegation members also appealed the DC to formulate a strategy to compensate their trade fraternity by announcing a compensation package in their favour.
