JAMMU: Menace of stray dogs, poor sanitary conditions and often traffic jams at some bottlenecks are some of the problems people of Ward Number-24 (Lower Rehari Colony) are facing for quite a long time.
Shivani-a housewife from Hari Singh Nagar in this Ward informed that her locality lacks proper drainage system while similar were the views of people from Lower Green Enclave area of the Ward.
“We have a long pending demand of deep drains or a Nallah to streamline the drainage system,” Aryan from Lower Green Enclave said.
Still other people of this Ward had complaint regarding lack of street lights and problems in disposing off their garbage as the Ward has no dustbin for that purpose.
Rekha-a school teacher said, the Ward is badly suffering from the sanitary problems and threat of dengue outbreak is also very much there in the Ward.
Many people pinned hope on the newly elected Corporator, Anu Bali as she had assured solutions to all such problems during her election campaigning.
In an exclusive interview with EXCELSIOR, Anu talked about her plans for the Ward.
“As the public has supported me whole-heartedly to win the election, now it is my turn to work for the same public so that their (public) problems related to sanitation, cleanliness, street lights etc may soon come to an end,” Anu said.
“The funds available to our Ward will be utilized judiciously prioritizing cleanliness and sanitation,” she said.
She appealed the people of her Ward to co-operate her in garbage disposal and to stop the use of poly bags.
“I will like to request the public of my Ward to stop using poly bags as these choke the drains which in turn leads to several problems,” she said adding that the people should also stop throwing their garbage here and there and dispose it off at garbage dumping places in the Ward till the dustbins are installed.
She further said that soon she will organise meetings and seminars to aware the public about ill effects of using poly-bags.
She also said that she will meet traffic authorities to get cops posted at busy Rehari Chungi-Subash Nagar Road as this road mostly witnesses long traffic jams.
She expressed eagerness to get the fog sprayed in her Ward so that the people may get relief from the mosquitoes.
Apart from this, she informed that some free medical camps in her Ward figured in her plans.
She said that she has good relations with other Corporators and added that she will do her best to further strengthen these relations to get solution for some common problems like that of stray animals etc. Anu also expressed desire to do something for the welfare of women of her Ward.
A housewife turned Corporator of Jammu Municipal Corporation-enthusiastic Bali claimed that her role as a Corporator will not discriminate the one she was already doing as a housewife as her children are grown up and there are domestic helps at her home.
“Moreover, my husband also helps me to a large extent as he is a known social worker of the area,” she informed.
On her political ambitions of joining some party she said that right now she is making her priority as welfare and development of her Ward.
“I am least interested in joining some political party because as an independent I will remain free from restrictions of certain ideologies and will devote myself whole heartedly for the welfare of my Ward people,” she maintained.
Independent Bali had defeated BJP candidate Urvashi Gupta-a young engineer with a margin of 21 votes. Bali got 1213 votes against 1192 by Urvashi.
Earlier this Ward was a bastion of BJP for the last 35 years.
A mother of two children, Bali said: “My son Sarveshwar is pursuing a professional degree in Pharmacy while daughter Bhuvneshwari Masters in Law is married to a businessman in Punjab.”
She had all praises for her husband Naveen Bali-a Pharma businessman and her father-in-law, Bansi Lal Bali-retired Assistant Deputy Director in Food and Supplies Department for supporting and motivating her to contest these Urban Local Bodies elections.
Anu concluded saying that her Ward is like a big family to her and maintained that if one works honestly then God is there to shower His blessings in the form of success.
