UDHAMPUR, May 26: House of a Special Police Officer (SPO) was completely gutted in accidental fire at village Bashat in Chenani, here today.
Even as there was no loss of life or injuries to anyone, the fire blazes completely gutted the house of SPO Gurnam Singh, who is working in Chenani Police Station.
Cause of the fire could not be ascertained and according to a rough estimate, property worth over Rs 15-20 lakh was lost in the incident.
Meanwhile, officials said that fire broke out in the forest belt of Chenani prompting the authorities and local volunteers to come into action.
The blazes erupted in the Beshati forest area and rapidly spread over a large expanse of land. The Forest Department and the Fire and Emergency Services, alongside local volunteers, have launched an extensive firefighting operation. There are no reports of any casualty or injuries, officials said and added that the operation to douse the blazes was still underway.
