SRINAGAR, Dec 16: At least six labourers and a family had a narrow escape when a house collapsed and two others developed cracks in the Safa Kadal area of old city Srinagar this morning.
The residents said that the building collapsed due to the digging of its basement by Flood Control Division for construction of new embankment.
Mehraj-ud-Din Wani, owner of the house said that he told many a times to the concerned engineer against digging in the vicinity of his house but the engineer gave a blind eye.
“We told the engineer to go for digging in phased manner but he refused which resulted in the collapsing of the house”,  Wani said.
The police reached on the spot and take note of the situation.
Meanwhile, the house owner said that even after the repeated pleas no official from Srinagar Municipality (SMC) and Flood Control Department visited the place so far.
Two more houses of Ali Mohammad Wani and Mohammad Sultan Wani developed cracks. “Since morning we are living outside our home in open sky and no one came to us,” Mehraj said.
