Hostel inmates attack issue: students protest, NPP leader’s brother arrested

JAMMU, Sept 18: The students of Government Gandhi Memorial (GGM) Science College and Government Degree College (GDC) Paloura today held protest demanding immediate arrest of Rawat Singh Manhas, brother of NPP candidate from Akhnoor Pushpinder Singh Manhas and his associate Manmeet Singh for attacking and assaulting hostel inmates late last night over some students representative election issue. However, Nowabad police acting swiftly, arrested Rawat Singh Manhas, while manhunt was going on to nab his associate Manmeet Singh.
Large number of students of GGM Science College and Government Degree College (GDC) Paloura under the banner of Jammu Joint Student Union (JJSU) after boycotting their classes assembled at their respective colleges and held protest.
The protestors were demanding immediate arrest of Rawat Singh Manhas, brother of NPP leader Pushpinder Singh Manhas and his associates Manmeet Singh for attacking and assaulting hostel inmates late last night.
On getting information, police rushed to the spot and pacified the students assuring them of strict action against those involved in the incident.
Meanwhile, a case under FIR number 147/14 under Section 307, 323 and 457 has been registered at Nowabad Police Station and manhunt has been launched to nab Rawat Singh Manhas and Manmeet Singh.
However, police team from Nowabad Police Station led by SHO Satvinder Singh conducted a raid on specific inputs and arrested Rawat Singh Manhas from a hideout late night.
As reported, Rawat Singh Manhas, brother of NPP candidate from Akhnoor Pushpinder Singh Manhas along with his associates Manmeet Singh assaulted hostel inmates over issue of election for the post of president of the college late last night.
The hostel inmates later ransacked the canteen and blocked the vehicular movement on the Canal Road for some time. Later, they were pacified by the police.
