Hospitals sans doctors

It sounds bizarre. Accidental Hospitals have been opened at some vulnerable places keeping in mind the frequency of road accidents that happen on more vulnerable roads. But what sense is there in opening a hospital when neither the qualified doctor nor the paramedical staff is available in these hospitals. It is only tall talk and no reality. The Accidental Hospital at Khillani in Doda was considered the most crucial because that is the road where road accidents frequently take place. However there is no sanctioned post of doctor for this hospital. People are dismayed and even angry that the politicians and the Government both hoodwink them.
The decision of establishing three or four Accidental Hospitals at identified places in the region was taken with much consideration and consultation. Accidents do not happen every day and accident happens accidently. That does not mean the hospitals should be left without the doctor on the presumption that an accident may not happen. It is callous and inhuman. The problem is with the doctors and with the administration both. Doctors would not want to come out of the lucrative posting in urban areas and go too far off places which are not at all lucrative. And the Government also obliges politicians and bureaucrats who interfere largely in the posting of doctors. Thus in this case both have formed a nexus. Authorities in the Health Department say that 112 new posts were recommended for creation but the Finance Department wanted to slash it down and the matter is hanging fire. How will this be resolved nobody can say and the result is that not only the Accident Hospitals but thousands of Health Centres are without manpower. There is no definite plan with the Government to overcome this shortage. These medical centres have remained victims of Government apathy.
