Hospitals in rural areas

Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘Hospitals in rural areas without doctors’ DE Sept 23.
The successive Governments in the State have often claimed that they have taken various steps to improve the functioning of Primary Health Centres (PHCs) located  in rural areas.
Though the health of PHCs may have improved to some extent with regard to infrastructure but, it is true, that lot needs to be done to make these health centres fully self reliant to ensure quality medicare to rural people.
It has been observed most of the times that people in rural areas flock to hospitals located in towns and capital cities of the State to avail services of specialists, and other facilities. This makes these hospitals overcrowded, with the result, the quality services suffers a lot. The doctors who become overburdened fail to  do justice to their profession. As times, we witness patient-doctor conflicts as a result of it, forcing doctors to go on strikes and disrupting medical services.
The Government must frame a comprehensive medical policy vis-a-vis rural health sector. It should take into accounts all problems facing the rural people, and finding a viable solution to them.
Yours etc…
