SRINAGAR, June 3: Retreating Government’s commitment of boosting and rejuvenating horticulture sector in the State, Minister of Horticulture, Housing, Culture, Youth Services & Sports, Raman Bhalla today said that every effort is being taken for streamlining, promotion and development of horticulture industry by the Government so that farmers, growers and other people associated with it are benefitted.
Inaugurating a 2-day workshop on the introduction of HORTNET Portal here today, at Directorate of Horticulture Rajbagh Srinagar, the Minister said that the main objective of the portal is to bring modernization in the sector and facilitate the farmers and growers especially in remote and far flung areas for meeting out their day to day needs and requirements for the development of horticulture in the market.
The workshop has been organized by the Department of Horticulture in collaboration with Union Ministry of Agriculture.
The training programme is being attended by the officers and other concerned resource persons of the Horticulture Department during which these officers will be imparted necessary training regarding the functioning and operations of HORTNET Portal.
The Minister said HORTNET Portal can prove public friendly as well as official friendly with speedy disposal of various issues relating to the official functioning besides implementation of schemes and programmes. He also said that satellite market and terminal market system is being launched soon in the State which he hoped be a historic step for the promotion of horticulture industry
Referring to the State’s economy, Mr. Bhalla said that horticulture industry is backbone of State economy and large populace of Jammu and Kashmir is associated with it and Government is making all out efforts for its upliftment and development by upgrading basic infrastructure and besides use latest technological methods and trends in
Director Horticulture in his welcome address also highlighted the importance and need of launching HARTNET portal in the State and said it will prove beneficial for the people associated with the horticulture industry.
Secretary, Horticulture Department, Sanjeev Verma, Project Director National Horticulture Mission, Rakesh Verdan, Under Secretary NHM, Sadhna Khana, Director Horticulture Kashmir, Pawan Kumar and Master trainers from GoI besides other officers of the horticulture department were present on the occasion.
Later, the Minister chaired a meeting of J&K Horticulture Planning and Marketing Board at Civil Secretariat.
