Horti Deptt organizes awareness camp for Mango farmers

JAMMU, Nov 6: Department of Horticulture, Jammu organized an awareness camp for Mango farmers at village Malla Bharore in tehsil Khour under Mango Village Project.
The camp was attended by Chief Horticulture Officer (CHO), Sarbjit Singh, Associate Professor, SKUAST-J, Parshant Bakshi, Subject Matter Specialists, concerned Horticulture Development Officer (HDO), Sandeep Sharma, besides a large number of Mango farmers, local Sarpanch, Naresh Kumar and Panchs.
Mango Village Project is a prestigious project of Horticulture Department which commenced in the year 2016-17 for a period of four years under capex budget.
Speaking on the occasion, the CHO exhorted upon the physical and financial achievements of the projects during last three years. He emphasized the farmers to submit proposal for sanction at an earliest for achievement of targets in due course.
Sarbjit Singh disclosed that during current year, 25 borewell/dug well at the cost of 0.9 lakh each, 25 vermi compost units at the cost of 0.5 lakh each and 25 on farm handling units at the cost of Rs 1 lakh will be constructed. He also shared technical knowhow with the farmers and redressed on spot problems of the farmers.
Parshant Bakshi, while addressing the farmers, stressed on using of organic manure, judicious use of water, moisture conservation, timely application of fertilizers and follow up of the irrigation schedule for obtaining maximum returns.
HDO Sandeep Sharma attends various queries of the farmers on Mango farming and satisfied them with his answers. He urged them to avail various schemes/benefits of Horticulture Department to raise their income.
On the occasion, 250 fruit plants of improved quality were issued free of cost to the farmers.
