Home Secy to visit IB today

JAMMU, Aug 23: Union Home Secretary R K Singh is arriving here on a two days visit of the State tomorrow morning during which he would have an extensive review of security scenario prevailing on the International Border (IB) in Jammu sector in the wake of continued firing and ceasefire violations by the Rangers and detection of a tunnel dug 540 meters inside the Indian territory by Pakistan authorities at Chechwal in Samba sector for infiltration of militants and smuggling of narcotics.
Mr Singh would flew-in here from New Delhi at 9 am. He would fly to Suchetgarh sector in a chopper where he would review the situation on the borders with senior officers of BSF, other paramilitary forces and Intelligence agencies, civil administration and police authorities.
He would then flew to Pallanwalla sector in Akhnoor where also he would have a similar review of the situation.
In the afternoon, the Home Secretary was scheduled to visit Northern Command Headquarters for a detailed review of security situation with Northern Command chief Lt Gen K T Parnaik.
He would fly back to Jammu from where he would leave for Srinagar.
Mr Singh would have a night halt in Srinagar and would meet Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and other senior civil functionaries. He would review the situation in the Kashmir Valley before returning to New Delhi on August 25 afternoon.
Mr Singh would submit a detailed report to Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on the security scenario of the State.
