Homage paid to Brig Rajinder Singh on 114th birth anniversary

JAMMU, June 14: The 114th birth anniversary of Brigadier Rajinder Singh was celebrated at his birth place Bagoona of Samba district by the Brigadier Rajinder Singh Memorial committee in collaboration with district administration and J&K Ex-Services League.
Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood & Control, Sham Lal Sharma, was the chief guest on the occasion while District Development Commissioner, Samba, R K Varma was the guest of honour.
Ex-Minister, Manjit Singh, Maj General (retd) Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, Chief Engineer PHE, K K Gupta, Chief Engineer Flood & Control, Ashwani Badyal, Director Floriculture, K K Sharma, members of Rajinder Singh Memorial Committee, Sarpanchs, Panchs, sectoral officers and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
Paying homage to Singh, the Minister saluted him for his bravery and supreme sacrifices and exhorted upon the youth to follow his footsteps with a pledge to safeguard the honour of the Nation. He also thanked the people of Bagoona for donating the land for construction of Brigadier Rajinder Singh Memorial Park.
The Minister announced Rs 35 lakh for improvement of water supply in the area and stressed upon the people to help preservation of traditional water bodies.
A cultural programme depicting valour and bravery of soldiers was also presented by various school children.
Ex-Minister, Manjit Singh, DDC and Maj General (retd) Goverdhan Singh Jamwal also spoke on the occasion and paid tributes to the great son of soil.
J&K Freedom Fighters Association (JKFFA) also celebrated the Birth Anniversary of Brigadier Rajinder Singh by organizing an impressive function at Ved Mandir, Ambphalla, here today.
Joint Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Jammu, Kapil Sharma, was the chief guest while president of the Association, Ved Gandotra, presided over the function.
The chief guest followed by all the members of the Association, paid floral tributes to the Brigadier and threw light on the life history of the martyr, who laid his life for the Nation. Sweets were also distributed among the children.
Remembering the martyrs and freedom fighters, all the speakers advised the people especially the political class to follow the path of freedom fighters and shun the policy of divide and rule, corruption, favoritism and nepotism.
They also asked the youth to come out to give a neat and clean leadership to the Country.
Prominent among those who spoke on the occasion were Amar Chand, Purshotam Singh, KK Mengi, Sukhminder Singh, Harinder Singh, Charanjeet Singh, Susheel, Gajan Singh, Deepak Sharma and Prof Bhardwaj.
The anniversary of Brig Singh was also celebrated by Rashtriya Shahidi Yadgaar Committee, J&K, with great enthusiasm at press club, here.
Rich tributes were paid to the martyr and the statue was garlanded with flowers by the committee members.
Addressing the gathering, the president of the Committee, Raj Kumar, appealed the State and general masses to follow the footpaths of such martyrs.
Others who participated were I P Sharma, B L Gupta, M R Bangotra, Deepak Sharma, Kuldeep Kumar, Sham, Kamal Thakur, Kishori Lal, Ajeet Singh Adiyal, Kanta Devi,  Sanjay Kumar and Bhupinder Lal.
