Holiday on September 23rd

Sir,
Maharaja Hari Singh’s birthday falls on 23rd of September every year as per English Calender. The Maharaja ruled Jammu and Kashmir  during British rule. He ruled the State in a secular and democratic way despite the fact he being a part of monarchy. He was the successor of Royal Dogra dynasty and last Maharaja of the  State.
He was a true nationalist and  never compromised on this matter. He had oftenly declared, “I am Indian first  then Maharaja.” This he proved when he acceded to the Union of India by signing the historic Instrument of Accession on 26th of October, 1947.
He promulgated Agriculturists Relief Regulation which released the cultivator from the clutches of the money lender. The Prevention of Child Marriage Act made it an offence for parents to marry boys and girls before attaining the age of 18 and 14 respectively. He had announced that his religion is justice and he would attend Eid prayers of Muslims in the State. Maharaja Hari Singh was an administrator of the first rank and a progressive in outlook whose deeds speak of his perception. 23rd September is  a day of high significance when birthday of the  Maharaja falls on and as such Gazetted holiday should be declared on this day. The resolution in this regard has already been passed by the legislative council and also keeping the sentiments of the people in view it is suggested that Holiday be declared on this day.
Yours etc….
