HM militant arrested at Narwal with grenade

Police averts terror strike

JAMMU, Feb 22: Police tonight arrested a militant of the Hizbul Mujahideen, hailing from South Kashmir, from Narwal on outskirts of the City and recovered one grenade from his possession which he was planning to throw at crowded place to cause casualties.
Police have identified the arrested militant as Shakir Ahmad Naikoo son of Mohammad Shaffi Naikoo, a resident of Harpoora Zainapora in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
One grenade was recovered from his possession at the time of arrest.
He has been booked under First Information Report (FIR) 56 of 2022 and Sections 18, 20, 23 Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and 4/5 Explosive Act at Bahu Police Station.
Police said they were maintaining vigil along Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and connecting roads after developing specific information about movement of a HM militant to Jammu for causing terror attack at crowded place.
A joint team of police and Special Operations Group (SOG) nabbed the militant soon after he reached Narwal.
He has been shifted for sustained interrogation. He had been deputed here by HM commander Basit Amin.
