Srinagar : A top Hizbul Mujahideen commander was killed in an encounter with security forces in Sopore area of North Kashmir today.
A security official told Excelsior that the operation was launched last night by security forces after they received information about the presence of an HM militant, Mohammad Shafi Sheikh, in a house in Seelu area of Sopore.
The official said that Sheikh fired on security forces leading to an encounter during which he was killed. The official said that he was an A+ category militant and was coordinator for the HM. Sheikh was active for past six years.
