HM assures security to DDC, Panchayat representatives

BJP delegation meets Shah, Nadda, Chugh

JAMMU, Nov 4: Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda today assured senior leaders of the BJP from Jammu and Kashmir that elected representatives of District Development Councils (DDCs), whose elections were announced this afternoon, Block Development Council (BDC) chairpersons, Panchayat and Municipal representatives will be provided adequate security cover in the UT.
Shah said security of elected representatives in Jammu and Kashmir is of prime concern for the Central and Jammu and Kashmir Governments and these concerns will be addressed.
Shah gave these assurances to a BJP delegation led by Ravinder Raina, president Jammu and Kashmir unit of the BJP which called on him, Nadda and Tarun Chugh, national general secretary, in New Delhi today.
Other BJP leaders from Jammu and Kashmir, who accompanied Raina, include Ashok Koul, general secretary (organizations), Sunil Sharma, Vibodh Gupta and Dr Devender Manyal.
BJP leaders told the Excelsior that Shah was deeply concerned over killing of three BJP leaders by the militants recently in Kashmir and targeting of elected representatives and has assured that security concerns of all people will be addressed.
“The Central and Jammu and Kashmir Governments will take all steps to ensure security of elected people and others in the Union Territory,” they said.
They added that Raina briefed Shah and Nadda about the BJP’s preparations for the District Development Council (DDC) elections and demanded that the elections should be held on party-basis to ensure maximum participation of political parties and local people.
The BJP leaders briefed Shah, Nadda and Chugh about frequent ceasefire violations by Pakistan Army and Rangers along Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB).
The Union Home Minister told the BJP leaders that shelling and firing by the Pakistan army and Rangers is being replied with very effectively by the Indian troops. Number of bunkers have been constructed on LoC and IB and more will be constructed, based on the requirements, the BJP leaders said, adding that the Central Government was aware of the problems being faced by the border dwellers due to shelling and firing.
The BJP leaders gave detailed briefing to Shah, Nadda and Chugh on political and security situations prevailing in Jammu and Kashmir including the party’s preparations for the District Development Council elections, which are being held for the first time in J&K and will form third tier of Panchayati Raj System in the Union Territory.
