Hizb militant killed in Kulgam

SRINAGAR, Jan 27: A militant of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit was today killed in an encounter with security forces in South Kashmir district of Kulgam.
Security forces this afternoon cordoned off Makroo Mohalla in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district after they received an input about presence of militants in the village.
As the security forces cordoned off the village, the locals pelted stones on the security forces to prevent them for conducting the operation. Security fired USED teargas to disperse them.
The militant was hiding in a house and he fired on the security forces injuring an army personnel, Sharifudin. The security forces fired at him killing him outside the house.
The militant has been identified as Shahid Ahmad Thokar. He had joined militancy recently. One pistol and a grenade have been recovered from the site of encounter.
A police spokesman said here that the militant was wanted by law for his complicity in terror crimes including attacks on security establishments.
“Terror crime cases were registered against him including case FIR No. 72/2018 and FIR No. 01/2020 at PS Qoimoh”, he said.
“Incriminating material including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All these materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe his complicity in other terror crimes”, he said.
In the meantime, one Over Ground Worker (OGW) Sajid Farooq Dar son of Farooq Ahmad Dar, resident of Hajin Bandipora area of North Kashmir was arrested by the security forces including 29 RR of Army, SOG Pattan and CRPF. A grenade was recovered from his possession.
