SRINAGAR Aug 25: Police solved a hit and run case and arrested the Sumo driver who had knocked a school girl to death in Srinagar last year.
Police said that after a relentless investigation, Srinagar police tracked a Sumo and its driver who knocked a school girl Khushboo Posh daughter of Mohammad Aslam Posh resident of Batwara, Srinagar near JK BOSE crossing when she along with her friends was returning back from the BOSE office on 16th November, last year.
The girl after being hit by the Sumo was shifted to JVC hospital by her friends in the same Sumo which hit her. On seeing the critical condition of the injured girl the erring driver had fled away from the hospital leaving the injured girl at the mercy of fellow girls. The girls could not note the registration number of the involved Sumo. Later the injured girl succumbed to her injuries in Soura hospital. A case FIR number 334/2013 under section 279, 304 RPC was registered in Police Station Parimpora in this regard and investigation was taken up.
During the course of investigation a number of Sumos including those which were moving as per the tower locations on the same date around the time of occurrence were brought and their drivers put to sustained questioning.
Police continued the efforts and succeeded to get a clue and identified the Sumo vehicle bearing registration number JK15/3017. Later the Sumo driver who was driving the Sumo at the time of occurrence was also identified as Shakeel Ahmad Khan son of Ghulam Mohammad Khan resident of Watrana Bandipora who is the son of the owner of Sumo.
A test identification parade of the accused was carried out at Police Station Parimpora today under the supervision of Tehsildar Central, Srinagar and the fellow girls of the deceased girl identified the erring driver in presence of Tehsildar central. The accused was arrested on the spot.
