LEH, Oct 11: Expressing dismay over use of ‘abusive’ language against Chief Executive Councilor, Dr Sonam Dawa, the leaders of different political parties and organizations today termed the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council as a temple for the people of region and stressed that nobody should ever try to tarnish its image.
Addressing a joint press conference at Hill Council Secretariat here, Member of Parliament Thupstan Chhewang flanked by Congress Legislative Party leader Nawang Rigzin Jora and Ladakh Buddhist Association President Tsewang Thinles condemned the recent incident of monks from Hemis, Chemday and Korzok Monasteries reportedly using abusive language against CEC Dr Sonam Dawa during a meeting with the latter.
Condemning the incident in one voice, they termed it as undemocratic method of lodging the protest and said, “it is not the way to lodge protest and those who instigated the monks must be exposed”. They further said, “Hill Council is a temple for the people of Ladakh and its prestige and image must not be tarnished at any cost”.
It is pertinent to mention here that monks of Hemis, Chemday and Korzok Monasteries during their meeting with CEC Dr Sonam Dawa alleged that he had failed to provide reception to His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa during his arrival in Ladakh after cycle yatra from Nepal to Ladakh with 200 nuns.
Further, they alleged that Hill Council Chairman undermined the Naropa-2016 celebrations by refusing to deliver the speech, leaving early and abandoning a landmark program. “Despite repeated invitation and reminders you as the elected political leader of Ladakhi people have failed to show respect to Ladakhi’s own culture and tradition by avoiding to attend the subsequent programs of Naropa-2016”, reads the letter of monks addressed to the Chairman.
Through the letter, the representatives of Hemis Monastery and its branches have expressed their ardent dismay at the leadership of Dr Dawa.
However, Dr Dawa has termed all the allegations as baseless and said, “I tried my level best to explain my position to the monks but they used abusive language against me”, adding “they created a situation where I became helpless and had to write an apology letter”.
New Ladakh Movement (NLM) party convenor Sonam Wangchuk and LBA Vice President PT Kunzang were also present during the joint press conference.
