JAMMU, Mar 16: Former minister and president DCC Kathua, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma today said that giving hike in the Excise Duty of petrol and diesel by the BJP led Modi Govt is great injustice with the people of the country.
While conducting tour of Billawar area of district Kathua today Dr Sharma, a former MLA slammed the Centre’s decision on hike in petrol and diesel rates even as there was a fall in international oil prices. Manohar said the ruling party of the country is not committed to the people and instead of passing on the benefit of the global oil price crash to Indian consumers.
He said instead of slashing the prices of petrol and diesel in India, Government has hiked Excise Duty on fuel to mop up gains arising from fall in international oil prices. Terming such a move during an epidemic like COVID-19 as gross injustice to the people, Dr Sharma said a strong protest should be raised against the policies of the Central Government and demanded an immediate rollback on Rs 3 Excise Duty hike on petrol and diesel. He also criticized the hike in tax on mobile phones from 12 % to 18 % and said this will directly hit retailers and customers.
