JAMMU, May 2: With hijacking of yet another vehicle- four in last fortnight in Samba and Kathua districts has triggered panic in the area as police is yet clueless about the gang involved in the act.
One more vehicle – -a white coloured Scorpio bearing registration number JK19-2787 was hijacked to Samba at 2320 hours today. This is the fourth such incident in last fortnight. Earlier two vehicles were hijacked to Samba district from Jammu while one was taken to Kathua district two days back.
As the police was yet investigating the motive behind the hijacking of earlier three vehicles, one more vehicle was hijacked by the two criminals from Jammu to Supwal in Samba district today.
Reports said that the two persons appearing as Gujjars hijacked a vehicle from Jammu and after reaching Supwal in Samba district, they snatched the keys from driver and forced him to alight from the vehicle and fled away.
The driver of the vehicle identified as Mushtaq of Ramban reached police station Vijaypur and lodged a complaint there. Soon, Vijaypur Police informed the PCR and information was sent to all police stations in the districts of Samba and Kathua to trace the vehicle and hijackers but no clue has been gathered so far.
Two days back a Tavera vehicle was allegedly hijacked fromSatwari area of Jammu to Kathua district and after an intense search operation it was found parked in the Agricultural University road area late last night.
Sadiq, the driver of the vehicle, told police that the vehicle had been booked by two youth, who told him they wanted to go from Jammu to Kathua to attend a marriage party.
Surprisingly the vehicle crossed many nakas in the way from Jammu to Harya Chak but the hijackers managed to cross them easily putting a question mark on the security agencies as well.
According to the driver’s version as the vehicle reached close to the Mukandpur camp near the border belt of Kathua, the duo pushed him out and fled with the vehicle.
The driver then informed the policemen at Harya Chack Police Station after which a case was registered and an operation launched to trace the vehicle and the two hijackers.
The vehicle was finally found parked on university road in Jammu city.
Police has quizzed the driver and are investigating the case as Harya Chak area in Kathua where the vehicle was hijacked is known for the infiltration of the militants.
The militancy angle in the case has not been ruled out by the police.
Earlier also two vehicles were hijacked from Jammu to Samba area and drivers were dramatically pushed out from the vehicles by the hijackers who fled with the vehicles.
However, police is investigating the matter and motive behind the hijackings. The police is not ruling out any possibility but so far it has not reached on any conclusion.
When contacted, DIG Jammu-Kathua Range Ashkoor Wani told Excelsior that most likely it will be criminal act “but we are not ruling out any possibility.’’ He said serious investigations are on in the matter and two persons have already been arrested and they are being quizzed to ascertain the motive.
