JAMMU, Nov 11: Mohammad Akbar Lone, Minister for Higher Education, called on N. N. Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan here today.
Mr. Lone briefed the Governor about the initiatives being taken by the State Higher Education Department to promote the cause of higher education in J&K. The Governor emphasized the very high importance of the Higher Education Department ensuring that high quality education is imparted to the students in all areas of learning so that they are adequately equipped with the required knowledge and skills to compete successfully with their counterparts from anywhere in the country.
The Governor complimented Mr. Lone for recognizing the need for the State Universities to effectively ensure that every affiliated institution fully adheres to the prescribed standards and regulations.
Prof. M. P. S. Ishar, Vice Chancellor, Jammu University also called on Mr. Vohra.
During the meeting, the Governor, who is Chancellor of the Jammu University, discussed with Prof. Ishar various important issues relating to the progressive functioning of the varsity.
The Vice Chancellor also briefed the Governor about the to-date status of the various arrangements being made for the Indian Science Congress which will be held at the Jammu University on 3rd – 7th February, 2014.
