It is heartening to know that the University of Jammu will be opening a campus at Dalsar in Ramnagar of Udhampur district. Opening of a campus at this remote part of the region is indicative of the urge of the Government to bring higher education to the backward areas so that students who otherwise cannot afford o go to the cities for post graduation will receive it at their doorstep. We fully endorse the views of the Governor, who was speaking on the occasion of laying the foundation stone of the campus, that education today has to be job oriented. This is the age of science and technology. As such skills are needed for earning a living. Education received at higher institutions should be helpful to the student community in finding employment. This is the age of specialization and competition. Students churned out from the institutions of higher study should not become a burden on the State and society but should have the capacity of self employment.
While opening of the campus in a remote part of Jammu region is highly appreciable and the Jammu University Vice Chancellor deserves to be complimented for the same, we would like to emphasize that interaction between the students in different campuses and even with students and institutions outside the State is of vital importance to help students reconstruct their personality as responsible citizens of India. We would like to emphasize that our student community as well as the teaching faculties need to be re-oriented along nationalist and patriotic approach to our social, economic and political problems. We have built the infrastructure and now we are busy in building the superstructure. We need to infuse stability, confidence and creativity among our student community. This is a great nation and we need to do things that befit our history, status and futuristic vision. Students of today are the builders of India of tomorrow.
