High level meeting discusses migrants’ problems

JAMMU, May 9: A high level meeting of the various departments was held here today to sort out the problems of the migrants putting up in various camps and non camp localities in the Jammu division.
The problems arisen due to late distribution of ration, irregular water supply in Purkhoo camp etc were discussed threadbare in the meeting which was convened by Commissioner/ Secretary Revenue, Vinod Kaul  and among others was attended by Relief Commissioner (M), R  K Pandita Additional District Development Commissioner Jammu, Deputy Director CAPD Jammu, Executive Engineer PHE, Executive Engineer Relief Organization, Deputy Commissioner Relief Organization and zonal officers.
The meeting decided that PHE Department will construct sump with a capacity of 40,000 gallons at Purkhoo camp for smooth water supply to camp and work on the same will be started soon after Model Code of Conduct is over.
The CAPD was asked to ensure timely supply of ration in the camps and also ensure distribution of APL cards among the migrants as per past practice.
The DD CAPD informed that the ration cards will be made available to Relief Organization by the end of this month. The meeting also urged the company which is constructing hospital at Jagti to complete the work within next five months.
The progress regarding construction of sewerage treatment plant at Jagti was also reviewed and it was informed that due to non availability of land, work was got held up. However the Revenue authorities were asked to identity the alternative land for the same.
The instructions were also given to concerned officers for maintenance of migrant quarters.
The Commissioner-cum-Secretary also assured the migrants that encroachments, if any on their property will be removed.
The migrants were asked to provide all details to Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner in this regard.
He also informed the migrant that Government is committed to protection of their property in Valley besides ensure the hassle free facilities to them at their present place.
During the meeting instructions were given to all Zonal officers / camp commandants to remain in their office between 9-30 am to 12 noon daily and during this time they should not conduct any field visits.
The Zonal officers were asked not to leave their offices during this period and instead attend to the problems of migrants.
