The record voter turnout in first phase of State Assembly elections underscores the fact that people despite being duped by politicians time and again still repose faith in democratic process. Voters believe there is no alternative to democratic process, and they must participate in it whole heartedly. They have realized that their votes can change the socio-economic outlook of the society for better.
The voters braved chilly conditions, defied old age, left their chores unattended just to exercise their right to franchise. By casting their votes, people have shouldered their responsibility, and it is now the turn of would be representatives to live by their promises they made with the electorate. Most of the times people complain that politicians forget them once they are choosen to corridors of power. Such a development amounts to breach of trust.
In the past people had almost lost hope in elections process. The faith in the system re-kindled only after Election Commission of India initiated several reforms, and made people realize the power of vote.
The heavy turn out of people during last parliamentary elections, and now in the State election only confirm the truth.
