JAMMU, Mar 30: Pakistan army tonight pounded civilian areas with long range mortar shells and artillery fire in several sectors along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.
Reports said Pakistan started shelling and firing at about 8 pm targeting Mendhar, Balakote, Mankote, Balnoi and Krishna Ghati sectors in Poonch district.
The Indian side retaliated very effectively and strongly, leading to heavy exchanges, which continued till late tonight when the reports last came in.
Several houses were hit by mortar shells.

Two houses were damaged at Mankote in which a civilian identified as Mohammad Mushtaq son of Mohammad Akbar, a resident of Mankote was seriously injured.
He was evacuated from the site of shelling and shifted to hospital.
Sources said Pakistani troops directly targeted the civilian areas, leading to panic among the villagers.
There have been regular ceasefire violations by Pakistan army since Indian air strike at Balakote in Pakistan on February 26 in which number of militants were killed.
Three Army jawans have been martyred and three civilians were killed in Pakistan shelling in twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri.
In Indian retaliation, Pakistan army has suffered heavy casualties and infrastructural losses.
