JAMMU, July 6: Taking serious note of non-implementation of its earlier directions, High Court has directed the State to complete the exercise to implement Dowry Restrain Act within four months positively.
The direction was passed in a contempt petition filed in a Public Interest Litigation by a practizing lawyer Meharban Singh.
After hearing Senior Advocate SS Lehar with Advocate Ravi Abrol appearing in the contempt whereas Senior AAG Gagan Basotra for the State, Justice A M Magrey observed, “despite directions passed by the High Court, the respondents have not implemented the same. Moreover, despite issuance of notice the respondents have not filed reply”. Upon this, Senior AAG Gagan Basotra sought time to file compliance of order dated March 15, 2012.
“If the compliance is not filed by or before next date of hearing there would be no option for the court except to initiate coercive method for implementation of order dated March 15, 2012”, Justice Magrey said and directed the Registry to list this matter in next regular cause list.
