Srinagar, Apr 8: High Court today directed the R&B Department to inform the court by filing an affidavit in details as to what kind of maintenance has been undertaken for the roads for the last one year. The division bench of Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Tashi Rabstan while hearing a PIL on the condition of roads in the Valley, directed the CE R&B to submit an affidavit indicating therein the maintenance and care undertaken on the roads from the last one year.
Court during the proceedings of the case has been informed that the old road from Anantnag to Srinagar is in complete shambles and despite repeated requests to CE R&B no results prevails.
Court has been informed that the NHWI has released funds in favour of R&B Department for repair of old road till four lane National Highway is completed. R&B Department has endorsed that those funds have been received and also utilized on many projects.
Further it has been added that the construction of three bridges on highway, one of the Bridges is located at Pampore Bypass and two at Qazigund within Qazigund Bypass which is in-operational due to overhead high tension transmission line. It is stated that the State Power Development Department is required to take a view in the matter as to whether high tension transmission lines can be realigned.
Counsel appearing on behalf of the PDD submitted that the authority which is constructing the bridge which comes under transmission line has been approached and informed that as and when the work on the bridge is started the department would shut down the power supply or else would shift the line to a feasible place. From Ajas to Bandipora court has been informed that the said stretch of road for up-gradation has been taken in hand in the month of September 2018 and most of the road is in dilapidated condition and the department has repaired the worst stretches.
