Srinagar, Aug 8: Taking cognizance of a letter addressed by former Chief Justice with regard to encroachment and maintenance of parks, High Court has directed the authorities to submit their response within three weeks.
The former Chief Justice and present SHRC Chairman Bilal Nazki addressed a letter to Chief Justice of the State with regard to encroachments and maintenance of parks and while taking cognizance of the same High Court today arrayed Commissioner Secretary Tourism, Commissioner Secretary of UDD, Director Floriculture, DC Srinagar, VC SDA and Commissioner SMC as respondents and sought response from them on the issue within a period of three weeks.
Court in its note has said that the issues raised by the former CJ in his letter are very important to each and every resident of the cities of Srinagar and Jammu. The State Government, it appears has ignored the pertinent issues raised by a dignitary of the status of former CJ, which is clear from the facts that the Government has not even care to respond to the communication of the High Court.
Justice Nazki in his letter suggests for identifying areas/locations in Srinagar completely lacking parks/green spaces and identifying and earmarking an area in each locality of Srinagar for development of a park/green space/urban forest and set a time line within which such work is undertaken and completed by authorities.
