HC seeks ATR on defacement of public property

SRINAGAR, Aug 24: The High Court today sought information from the Government on action taken for defacement (Damage) of public property and number of cases registered and process of trial.
Hearing a Public Interest Litigation on protection of Sonamarg tourist resort, the Division Bench of Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Alok Aradhe said the defacement of public property is an important issued which need to be examined and directed the Government through Advocate General of the State to inform the Court as to what action has been and is being taken for defacement of public property under the statutory provisions of law.
The DB has also directed Government for placing the existing rules in this connection by way of filing of an affidavit. “Let the State place on affidavit of the existing rules on these aspects. If there are statutory provisions, the State has to place before this court the action taken hereunder including the number of cases registered and prosecution grant”, the DB directed.
Court for treatment of solid waste asked the AG to examine the status regarding the Solid Waste Management bylaws of other States of the country and added this aspect as to whether the SWM bylaws require to be notified by the Government in accordance with the provisions of the Environment Protection Act has been issued.
