HC notice on promotion of doctors

JAMMU, May 5: On a petition challenging promotion of Dr Darminder Kumar and Dr Elias Sharma as Assistant Professors in the Super Specialty of Cardiology and Urology, respectively, the State High Court has issued show cause notice to the Government.
The promotion has been challenged by Charitable Education and Research Trust on the ground that both the doctors have not completed the three years minimum teaching experience as Lecturer in their respective Discipline and hence not eligible to hold the post of Assistant Professor in terms of rule of 1979.
According to the petition, appointment of Dr Darminder Kumar and Dr Elias Sharma as Lecturer in Cardiology and Urology, respectively, in December 2012 was fresh and not in a manner of continuation of their earlier appointment as Lecturer in different Disciplines.
While issuing the show cause notice, HC has directed the Government to explain its position on May 16 in the court at Jammu and also produce relevant record of the case three days earlier before the hearing.

Pertinent to mention that Dr Darminder Kumar and Dr Elias Sharma were promoted as Assistant Professor in the Super Specialty of Cardiology and Urology, respectively in Government Medical College Jammu vide Government order number 181-HME of 2013, dated March 14, 2013.
