HC grants time to CBI in Quran theft case

SRINAGAR, Mar 22: High Court today granted further time to CBI with regard to investigation in theft of four hundred year old manuscript of holy Quran from the SPS museum and also directed the Archeology, Archives and Museums Department to submit the catalogues of all coins lying in the museum.
The Division Bench of Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir and Justice D S Thakur passed these directions in the PIL pertaining to the SPS Museum Srinagar, excavation sites and heritage monuments in Kashmir. In so far as the SPS museum is concerned, the petition started with regard to missing/stolen artifacts from the museum way back in 2003.
In terms of previous order, the State counsel produced two sets of catalogues before the court, but the same were without seal and signature of head of the department for which the court had directed.
Court as such directed the Registrar Judicial of the court to look into the matter and if the catalogues are already returned then same be got authenticated.
Counsel on behalf of CBI submitted that the details of investigation have been provided in the status report indicating therein as to how CBI proceeded in the matter and sought further time of four weeks in the first instance. Court granted the same and directed him for filing of latest report by next date.
