Srinagar, July 15: The State High Court today directed the Director Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) department and the Director Health Services Kashmir to ensure the supply of essential items and medicine in hospitals.
The Division Bench of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice M H Attar directed the CA&PD to ensure the supply of essential items, particularly food items and LPG, to the public without any hindrance in the mode which is feasible according to him for supply of such essential items. “The Director Health Services Kashmir is directed to ensure the availability of medicines in all the hospitals where the injured persons are getting treatment”, directed the court.
The court order said: “In terms of the order of this court dated 14.07.2016, compliance of reports filed by Director Health Services, Kashmir, Director CA&PD Kashmir, Director SKIMS, Srinagar and the Principal Medical College Srinagar. The report of the Principal Government Medical College Srinagar state that an amount of Rs. 11 lacs has been kept available for emergent nature. The Advocate General submits that further funds will be made available for purchase of drugs and other items of emergent nature”.
“The status report filed by Director CA&PD Department, Kashmir stated about the Government Sale Centres which were opened up to 14.07.2016 except Kupwara and Shopian districts”, Court directed.
“Even though the number of Sale Centres which were opened is mentioned, the area where the Sale Centres were opened and are functioning is not mentioned. Similarly the availability of LPG and other essential items though are mentioned, the complete report is not available to verify as to whether the people in the Valley are getting the essential items without any difficulty”, directed the court.
The Court also directed the Director, SKIMS, to file a status report regarding the availability of the medicines and other items for treatment and the actual supply made to the patients.
“The petitioner, who is appearing as party in person, seeks time to file reply to the status reports,” the court order reads.
