HC directs for preservation, protection of Saddar Court

Srinagar, Nov 18: High Court today directed the Government to take necessary steps for preservation and protection of Sadder Court Complex and file compliance in this regard before next date.
The Division Bench comprising Justice MH Attar and Justice D S Thakur in a petition moved by Bar Association through its president seeking direction to the respondents including Chief Secretary of State to declare the Sadder Court Complex, Srinagar including all those buildings which are located therein to be an ancient monument within the meaning of Section 3 of J and K Ancient Monuments Preservation Act.
“In the meanwhile respondents to take all necessary steps in accordance with law to ensure preservation and protection of the subject matter of the writ petition and file compliance report before next date of hearing”, directed the Bench.
A petition has been filed before High Court with regard to protection and preservation of Sadder Court Complex Srinagar which has became unsafe after unprecedented floods in valley.
Further prayer is being sought that in order to protect and preserve the said building, all steps shall be taken and nobody be allowed to cause any interference with these buildings and its land.
It is further submitted that in this connection some two years before the Bar Association had requested the Chief Justice and some other judges for declaring the structure as an ancient monument as the same is located in the Centre of City of Srinagar and some of its building are more than century old.
“But no such declaration has been issued by the Registrar General of High Court as he has immediate control over the entire complex” reads the petition.
