HC directs for Transgenders’ Welfare Board

Srinagar, July 19: High Court today directed the Social Welfare Department to consider the establishment of Transgenders Welfare Board in the State and report the court about the admitting of transgenders in the schools so far.
As per the court directions the transgenders in the State have been included as third gender as also they have been admitted to Aadhar link in order to issue Aadhar Cards.
to them by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIAI).
Amicus to the PIL has submitted before the Division Bench of Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Rashid Ali Dar that there are as many as five State in the country which have Transgenders Welfare Board likewise the said board can be established in J&K state also.
After these submissions, court directed the SWD to consider the establishment of such board in the State also.
It is mentioned that Election Commission of India is under direction with regard to steps taken to recognize the transgenders in the records to enable them to exercise their right to vote.
State counsel meantime was required to comply with the pronouncement of Supreme Court ruling as well as the direction passed by the court passed from time to time, has submitted that he has not received reports from all the Government departments who were required to comply with the directions of the court.
DB said, the directions passed by the Supreme Court almost five years ago and those directions are yet to be complied with by the State Government. Court in these circumstances granted one more opportunity to all concerned departments of the State to file their compliance within four weeks.
