HC directs for holding KCCI election

Srinagar, June 29: High Court today directed the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar to conduct the elections of executive committee of Kashmir Chambers of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) within 15 days keeping in view the feasibility of Covid-19 pandemic
The direction has been passed in an application filed by one of the factions of traders body for permitting them to hold and conduct elections of the office bearers of the body in terms of court order dated March 23.
Since the rival parties of the body have already recommended three persons from each party to hold and conduct the elections for the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI), the court of Justice Tashi Rabstan after taking into consideration application directed the DC Srinagar to conduct the elections within 15 days from the date the copy of the order is received by him.
Six persons were already nominated to form and function as a Committee for conducting elections of KCCI as also for the positions and office bearers of KCCI, viz. President, Senior Vice President, Junior Vice President, Secretary General, Joint Secretary General and Treasurer as prescribed under Memorandum of Understanding (MOA) of KCCI.
The counsel for parties while giving names of these persons before the court had been fair enough and ready to hold elections to elect the office bearers of KCCI. Amongst them one party suggested three persons, namely Sheikh Ashaq Ahmad of Ahmad Nagar Srinagar, Rauf Ahmad Punjabi of Hawal Srinagar and Nazir Ahmad Mir Fateh Kadal, Srinagar and the other party suggested the names of Abdul Majid Matto of Bagh-i-Ali Mardan Srinagar, Abdul Hamid Punjabi of Lal Bazar Srinagar and Mushtaq Ahmad Wani of Hyderpora, Srinagar.
Court has left it free for Deputy Commissioner Srinagar for taking all steps for conducting of elections of KCCI and directed him to follow all the SOPs issued by the Government from time to time with regard to the COVID 19 pandemic while conducting the elections and ensure its conclusion by end of April 2021, and report the court accordingly for compliance.
