HC directs for Corona preventive measures in jails

Srinagar Apr 17: As the Supreme Court already directed for prevention of spreading Coronavirus pandemic in jails, High Court today directed the Government of J&K to take preventive measures against the disease in all jails.
Hearing a bail application filed by one Bashir Ahmad Mir for his release from the custody, Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey said till the plea is decided the jail authorities shall ensure that all preventive measures be taken in order to prevent the pandemic in jails.
Court has issued notice to Government on bail application and given a week to decide as to whether the Mir is released on bail or not.
“Pending decision in the application, the Jail Authorities shall ensure that all preventive measures for spreading of Corona Virus in the area of lodgment is taken”.
Court directed the authorities to ensure strict adherence to the guidelines issued by the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs and provide the detenues all the required material for ensuring their safety.
Government counsel to the bail application has been asked to file the reply within stipulated period in the bail application through e-mail by or before April 23.
