HC directive to DG Prisons in petition of jail inmate

JAMMU, Sept 14: In a petition filed by an inmate seeking registration of case against authorities of Kot Bhalwal Jail for beating him mercilessly, High Court today directed Director General of Prisons to file response and preserve the CCTV footage of the prison.
According to the petition, the petitioner is an under trial prisoner in case FIR No. 78 of 2015 registered with Police Station Janipur under Section-302/34 of RPC and challan/final report/charge Sheet No. 50/2015 titled State Vs. Ravinder Kumar &Ors is pending before the First Additional District and Sessions Judge Jammu.
On 14.08.2017 when the petitioner was in his barrack some dispute arose between the jail authorities and some inmates who were at that time in the common TV Room and during such quarrel there was scuffle between them resulting into loss to the property. Then the private respondents brought some of the inmates who were involved in the destruction of the property of the jail in the TV Room to the barrack of the petitioner and started beating them.
After some time the private respondents also started beating the petitioner without any provocation by the accused in which the petitioner received serious injuries.
