Hawan-Yagna, prayers mark Shani Jayanti celebrations

JAMMU, May 22: Shri Shani Dev Jayanti was celebrated across Jammu with religious fervor with people performing Hawan-Yagna and prayers to get rid of COVID-19 pandemic as early as possible and also planting saplings of ‘Shammi’ plant, which is considered as a symbol of Shani Devta.
On the occasion, Shri Lakshmi Naryan Mandir Management Trust Gandhi Nagar performed Hawan chanting mantras for divine protection from COVID-19 in presence of renowned religious preachers as part of four-day programme which finally concluded today.
Earlier, Management Trust under the presidentship of Gulchain Singh Charak, former Minister and president of the Trust, along with trustees performed worship of nine planets (Nav Greh) followed by special Puja of Shani Dev ji on the occasion. The whole programme of worship and Shani Maharaj “Tel- Abhishek” was performed by the Mandir’s priests headed by the Head Pujari, Ashwani Kumar Shastri, keeping proper social distancing and bearing masks as per the guidelines of the administration and Health Department.
In Shani Dham situated in Jourian town of Akhnoor area of Jammu division, saplings were planted on the birth anniversary of Shani Dev. Shani Jayanti was celebrated every year as a festival called Shani Mahautsava at Shani Dham but this time the event was canceled due to Coronavirus pandemic.
President of Shani Dev Seva Samiti, Abhishek Gupta said that four people had done Havan-Yagna at Shani Dev Dham Jourian in the morning, taking full care of social distance. He said that today they planted the saplings of ‘Shammi’ plant as this plant was dear to Shani Dev and prayed for getting rid of COVID-19 pandemic.
Shri Shani Dev Jayanti was also celebrated in Bantalab. The Shani Dev Pooja started with chanting of Vedic Mantras, Hawan and reading of Shani Chalisa. On the occasion, Yuva Rajput Sabha president Surinder Singh Gilli appealed the society to stay home and follow lockdown guidelines. Yagya Acharya and Shri Kailakh Jyotish Avim Vedic Sansthan Trust president, Mahant Rohit Shastri told the devotees to do Pooja-Archana of Shani Dev at home. Saplings were also planted on the occasion.
On the eve of Shani Jayanti, a precise but impressive function was organized in Shani Temple situated in the premises of Bawa Kailakh Dev Temple, Bantalab, by Bawa Kailakh Prabandhak Committee. Special Pooja of Shani Sheela and Hawan were performed on the occasion after which saplings of ‘Shammi’ plant (Jand) were planted. Shakti Dutt Sharma, general seceratary, Prabandhak Committee, appealed the public in general to follow the instructions issued by the administration for wearing mask and social distancing.
Shanti Jayanti was also celebrated by Jammu Yatri Bhawan Trust led by Pt. Pawan Shastri at Yatri Bhawan Hardwar with religious fervor and gaiety. On the occasion a Hawan was also performed top invoke the blessings of Shani Devta for the betterment of mankind and to rid the world of present crisis faced due to spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
