JAMMU, Oct 1: Doda police has busted a hawala racket with the arrest of five persons and recovery of about Rs one lakh cash from their possession, which had to be used for funding militancy and other undesirable activities in the district.
Reports said police parties of Doda developed specific inputs and made total of five arrests-one after the other.
All the arrested accused have been sent to Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) in Jammu for sustained interrogation to ascertain sources of the hawala funds and the persons to whom they had to pay the money.
So far, police have recovered about Rs one lakh worth hawala money from the accused while more money was expected to be recovered after interrogation of the accused is completed.
The arrested accused have been identified as Abdullah Banday son of Ghulam Ahmad Banday R/o Bharth, Abdul Lateef son of Abdul Rehman R/o Ludna, Shamas Din son of Lal Deen R/o Baghla, Aijaz Ahmad Malla son of Abdul Samad R/o Malwana and Ali Mohammad, all residents of Doda.
A case against the accused has been registered at Doda police station for further investigations.
