Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘JK fails to harness solar power despite having 2nd highest potential in country’ DE Jan 4.
It is quite disappointing that the State has failed to harness Solar power potential with which it is endowed. The State which experiences shortage of electricity round the year and has to spend a huge amount on purchasing electricity should have attached priority to this sector.
In a state which is environmentally quite sensitive, exploitation of hydro power is quite costly and beyond the budget limits of the Government. The State has to find alternatives to meet the widening gap. The Government should make every possible effort to provide solar light to villages which even after 67 years of independence, have remained un-electrified. These remote village still depend on old means of illuminating their houses. The Government should get benefitted from schemes like Jawahar Lal Nehru National Solar Mission which have been framed entirely for haranessing solar power.
Yours etc….
