The ‘Sikh Supermom’, Harkirat Kaur Kukreja and her husband and businessman, Harjinder Singh Kukreja accompanied by their children called on National Commission for Minorities (NCM) chairperson, Iqbal Singh Lalpura and appreciated his work for minorities.
The Kukreja family met Iqbal Singh Lalpura, the chairperson of the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) in the NCM office located on Lodhi Road in Delhi.
“Even though the NCM has had Sikh functionaries in the past, it is after 15 years that a Sikh is heading the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) and it is commendable to see him uphold Sikh minority rights”, says Harkirat Kaur Kukreja.
“From writing to the CM of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma against the removal of poor Sikhs from the heart of Shillong, where they have been living for two centuries to assuring that Afghan Sikhs will get Indian citizenship without having to wait for CAA to be implemented, the new NCM chief ushers in a new sense of hope for the minority Sikh community in India,” says Harkirat Kaur Kukreja.
Harkirat Kaur Kukreja who is popularly known as the ‘Sikh Supermom’ for her active and significant role as a mother, activist and entrepreneur also has a soft spot in her heart and feels greatly towards Afghan Sikh and Hindu refugees who had to flee their motherland and settle down in India. Harkirat often interacts with young Afghan Sikh girls and mentors them into acquiring new and innovative skills to earn decent livelihoods.
Being the kind-hearted soul who can’t fathom not helping someone who needs it and truly so, she offered her support to the NCM chairperson and said thanked him on behalf of the Sikh community for his leadership and strong representation of the minorities of India.
