SRINAGAR, Oct 20: Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Law and Justice Abdul Haq today called for geo-tagging of all the assets created under MGNREGA in each Panchayat.
While chairing a meeting to review the physical and financial progress of different schemes of the department, Minister said, by geo-tagging assets, Government will be able to better monitor, record and map future developmental works.
Minister said the photographs of the assets created under MGNREGA like bridges, roads or dams will be geo-tagged and will be visible in public domain on internet and people will be able to check the location and the budgeting of the assets.
Abdul Haq said several innovative steps have been taken to make the functioning of the department accountable and transparent, with the aim that the benefits of the schemes would reach to the rural masses well in time.
The meeting was informed that the department has a labour budget of Rs 349.48 crore for the current year under MGNREGA out of which the available budget is Rs 164.85 crore till September 2016 while Rs 152.17 crore have been spend so far.
Abdul Haq called for wide publicity of the schemes aimed at providing employment to the people. He said the department has been able to generate 16.22 lakh mandays under MGNREGA till September this year.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Rural Development Department Kifayat Rizvi, Director Rural Development Department Kashmir Gazanfar Hussain, Director Panchyati Raj R. K. Bhat and Director Rural Sanitation M. R. Gasi.
