Handloom sector to be promoted as major cottage industry: Chander Parkash

JAMMU, Apr 22: Minister for Industries & Commerce, Chander Parkash today listed series of initiatives, including early filling of technical staff vacancies to promote handloom as major cottage industry.
“The issue pertaining to filling up the vacancies in respect of technical staff will be taken on priority so that the skill development programmes get boost,” Industry Minister said while chairing a review meeting of Handloom Development Department at Jawahar Lal Nehru Udhyog Bhawan Rail Head here.
Minister of State for Industries and Commerce, Power and Housing Mohammad Ashraf Mir was also present at the meeting.
Chander Parkash said the issues with regard to issuance of WCCs to maximum number of weavers and creation of facilities for them by the financial institutions will be taken up on priority.  He further assured that the proposed 4% additional interest subsidy under WCC from the State sector will be taken up with the Planning and Development Department for early implementation.
Director Handloom Department, T. Angchok, Additional Director Handlooms, Kusum Badiyal and senior officers of Directorate and Jammu division attended the meeting.
The Director Handlooms highlighted the Centrally Sponsored Schemes like Integrated Handloom Development scheme, Comprehensive Handloom Development Scheme, Marketing and Export promotion schemes being run by the department.
