LEH, Dec 26: Advisor Ladakh, Umang Narula today convened a meeting to review the implementation of the schemes of promoting Districts as Export Hubs and Prime Minister’s Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises under the Atam Nirhbar Bharat Abhiyan.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Industries & Comm-erce, Saugat Biswas, Deputy Commissioner Leh, Sachin Kumar Vaishya and Director Industries, Moses Kunzang.
Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Baseer-ul-Haq Choudhary participated in the meeting over video conference from Kargil.
Secretary Industries Saugat Biswas informed the meeting that under Developing Districts as Export Hubs, the State Level Export Promotion Committee (SLEPC) and District Level Export Promotion Committees (DLEPC) have been constituted and notified. It was also informed that District Export Committees have conducted their meetings and are in the process of preparing the District Export Action Plan in consultation with the Designated Regional Authority of Directorate General of Foreign Trade GoI. Under the scheme Pashmina, Woolen Products and Apricot are identified as potential export products of Ladakh.
Advisor Narula asked the department to identify the current export profile of Ladakh and further it’s potential in both the districts. He further asked the department to get the district wise export data from DGFT.
The Advisor impressed upon the need to handhold the aspiring entrepreneurs at all stages from production to export. He stressed on the need to disseminate information among the entrepreneurs regarding the various incentives provided by the Government. The Deputy Commissioners were asked to consult all stakeholders while preparing the District Export Action Plan.
The meeting also reviewed the implementation of Prime Ministers Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprise Scheme. It was informed that under the scheme Sea Buckthorn and Apricot are identified as One District One Product (ODOP) for district Leh and Kargil respectively. The existing Self-Help Groups and Farmers Producers Organizations and Producers Cooperatives covered under ODOP will be provided financial, technical and business support for up gradation of existing micro food processing enterprises. Defense Institute of High Altitude and Research (DIHAR) have been nominated as the State Level Technical Institution for providing support for training of units, product development and appropriate use of technology for micro-units.
The Advisor impressed upon the need to comprehensively and holistically plan development of integrated clusters for development of these identified products. He asked the department to leverage these schemes to build a bigger ecosystem for the promotion of industry in Ladakh.
